Photovoltaics in Aargau – Mittelland with full solar yield

Aargau is known as the "energy canton" and is driving solar expansion with strong infrastructure. Thanks to its location in the midlands, the canton offers good irradiation values, and the combination of Pronovo and the full tax deduction makes the investment particularly profitable.

Aargau is known as the "energy canton" – with PSI (Paul Scherrer Institute) in Villigen, which also researches solar technologies. The high density of industrial and commercial buildings offers enormous potential for large rooftop systems.

Figures with sources

Solar in Aargau: cost, size, storage.

Three questions decide almost every project before a roof is ever measured. Here they are with source and date, so it stays clear what each figure rests on.

  1. Costs

    What a system costs

Example: 5–10 kWp rooftop PV: CHF 13,500–27,000. Incl. 8.1% VAT, before incentives and tax deductions, without a battery. Calculated from the SFOE median of CHF 2,497/kWp: the range reflects different system sizes. A market comparison, not a quote.

Roof renovation, structural reinforcement and replacement of the meter cabinet are not included. Roof access, electrical work and planning can change the price. Your specific quote follows the property assessment.

  2. Sizing

    Single-family home: the realistic size

A typical household using around 4,000 kWh per year needs roughly 25 m² of module area (Swissolar, February 2024). As a starting figure, global irradiation in Canton Aargau is around 1160 kWh/m² per year. Whether that works on your roof in Aargau depends on orientation, pitch and shading — not on the floor plan.

Two federal bonuses explicitly do not apply to a single-family home: the winter electricity bonus requires at least 100 kW, and the tilt bonus at least 75 degrees of pitch. Neither applies to an ordinary pitched roof. Counting on them makes the business case look better than it is.

Clarify notification and permission before installation
  3. Storage

    Battery storage and self-consumption

Battery storage earns its money through self-consumption. Electricity you use yourself saves not only the energy price but also grid fees and levies — which is why it is worth more than exported electricity. That is what decides whether a battery pays off.

Since 1 January 2025, an association for self-consumption (ZEV) may also use the existing connection lines. This makes apartment buildings and neighbourhood setups considerably cheaper, as no dedicated line is required. Relevant grid operators in Canton Aargau: AEW Energie AG.

Swiss facts

Applies to residential and commercial properties.

One-time remuneration
Federal support depends on system type and size band. Vigorek clarifies which remuneration rate applies to your property and how it interacts with canton and grid operator.
Storage as a system decision
A battery only pays off when it fits your consumption and home technology. We assess it as part of the overall plan — not as a late upsell.
Realistic payback
We calculate with ranges instead of wishful numbers: self-consumption, remuneration and tariff logic together give a realistic picture of your economic return.

Proof

How sound planning becomes visible.

Our quotes are not built from flat packages, but from checked data, technical pre-assessment and clearly itemized positions.

  1. Planning basis

Official data as the first cross-check

Roof potential, irradiation and addresses are checked against GeoAdmin and BFE Sonnendach: the same datasets used by federal and cantonal bodies.

  2. Property review

Final quote based on verified data

The initial estimate gives realistic orientation. For the final quote, we capture roof areas, access and technical conditions through a 3D survey (drone) and on-site review — precise, not based on satellite assumptions.

  3. Electrical

    Coordination by licensed professionals

From electrical planning through protection equipment to grid registration: all safety-critical steps are carried out by licensed electrical professionals, in-house or through vetted partners.

Regional clarification

Not every system follows the same logic in Aargau.

In Switzerland, permits, grid operator, metering concept and incentive path always depend on the property, municipality and canton. These are exactly the points clarified early before a quote becomes binding.

That avoids a generic promise and creates a well-founded assessment that fits the region and the building.

The Founders

Engineering depth. Financial structure.

You know before signing who calculates your project and who builds it. Behind that are two founders with two areas of expertise — engineering and finance — and the conviction that a solar system only works long-term when both fit together from the start.

Building in focus

From roof surface to energy surface.

Full-black, in-roof or flat-roof: in Aargau we plan not for a datasheet, but for a building that has to stand up architecturally and within its local context.

Architecture first

Architecture, use and yield planned together.

In Aargau, materiality, visual lines and technical details are aligned so the system fits the design language and performs cleanly over time.

Substance01

The roof leads, not the sales graphic.

Mounting, waterproofing, shading and electrical work are clarified on the actual building — not on a model.

Precision02

Installation becomes visible before it has to be explained.

The system grows precisely into the building: tight penetrations, protected facade, modules sliding into the rails, and an aesthetic that fits the architecture instead of disturbing it.

Calm03

Technology that stays calm after handover.

The inverter, registration and documentation are done, cable routes and labels stay traceable, and the roof becomes a calm, reliable energy source for everyday use.

Clarity before commitment

Answers before you decide.

The key points are explained clearly, factually and without artificial urgency. For details, we assess your property in its project context.

Canton check

Solar system in Canton Aargau: what matters regionally

For local PV projects, the municipal boundary is not the only factor: roof access, snow load, shading, meter cabinet and grid connection determine the project flow.

Canton Aargau has its own rules for subsidies, permits and grid connection. We check them before quoting and record them in the project documentation.

Roof potential

Canton Aargau guideline: approx. 1160 kWh/m² global irradiation per year.

Grid & utility

Relevant grid operators in the canton: AEW Energie AG. Metering concept and registration are clarified before execution.

Permit

Notification via EVEN portal. Standard roof systems require no building permit. Parking lot solar: simplified approval. Aargau solar offensive supports quick action.

Subsidies & taxes

Aargau grants no general cantonal PV top-up per kWp for standard roof systems. The CHF 360–400/kWp (roof-integrated CHF 380/kWp) and the CHF 250/kWp parking-area bonus come from the national Pronovo one-time payment, not from the canton. At cantonal level, Aargau funds building-integrated and facade PV (integrated facade CHF 400/kWp, mounted facade CHF 200/kWp, from 75 degrees tilt, since 2025) and individually assessed large systems from ~100 kWp. In addition there is the full tax deduction (from 2026 with the net principle for the feed-in tariff). Exact rates: Energy Funding Programme 2025–2026, energieberatungAARGAU.

Regional service

PV Installation Aargau – Roof & Electrical

Aargau is known as the "energy canton" – with PSI (Paul Scherrer Institute) in Villigen researching solar technologies and PARK INNOVAARE as an innovation cluster. From 2026 AEW Energie AG pays a fixed tariff of around 8.2 Rp./kWh including HKN or the BFE reference market price without HKN (statutory minimum 6 Rp./kWh up to 30 kW). The high density of industrial and commercial buildings offers enormous potential for large rooftop systems. At cantonal level, Aargau funds facade PV (integrated facade CHF 400/kWp, mounted facade CHF 200/kWp, from 75 degrees tilt); there is no cantonal battery storage subsidy.

Regional service

Solar Installation Aargau – Planning to Commissioning

Aargau is among the few cantons that did not proactively implement MuKEn 2014 – but since 2025, the federal solar obligation applies for new buildings over 300 m². From 2026 AEW Energie AG pays a fixed tariff of around 8.2 Rp./kWh including HKN or the BFE reference market price without HKN. The canton pioneers agri-PV: four pilot projects generate up to 2.2 GWh/year. Spatial planning adjustments (July 2022) enable agri-PV on agricultural land – a regulatory framework unique in Switzerland.

Regional service

Flat-Roof Photovoltaics Aargau – Loads, Roof Protection and Mounting

In Aargau, industrial and logistics buildings along major transport routes offer large-area flat roofs optimally suited for PV. From 2026 AEW pays around 8.2 Rp./kWh including HKN or the BFE reference market price without HKN; at cantonal level only facade PV is funded (integrated facade CHF 400/kWp, mounted facade CHF 200/kWp, from 75 degrees), not battery storage. With over 520 MW of installed PV capacity, Aargau is among the leading solar cantons. PSI and PARK INNOVAARE create an environment that drives technological innovation in flat-roof planning.
