What does a solar system cost in Switzerland? Guide prices 2026

The most honest answer to the cost question comes not from a price list but from statistics: every year the Swiss Federal Office of Energy has the quotes and invoices of more than a thousand installed systems evaluated. For 2025, the median specific cost of a rooftop system is CHF 2,497 per kilowatt in the 2–10 kW class and CHF 1,911 per kilowatt in the 10–30 kW class – in each case excluding VAT but including modules, inverter, mounting system, electrical material, labour, planning, logistics and site safety. Half of all systems in the small class fell between CHF 2,096 and CHF 3,114 per kilowatt. For a typical single-family house with 8 kW that works out at roughly CHF 20,000 before incentives; since 1 April 2025 the federal one-time remuneration is CHF 360 per kilowatt for mounted systems and CHF 400 for integrated ones. Prices fell in 2025 for the second year running – by 4 to 9 percent depending on the size class – and are expected to stabilise in 2026. What your system actually costs depends on size, roof, mounting type and whether a battery is added.

What does a solar system for a single-family house cost?

Guidance for owners across Switzerland who want a reliable order of magnitude before the first quote: guide prices per kilowatt from the official price survey, the current federal incentive, a worked example and the factors that move a quote up or down.

All price figures are median values from the SFOE price survey 2025 (data basis: 1,686 systems, of which 1,598 rooftop systems; quotes and invoices from 2025; excluding VAT) and the incentive rates from the Energy Promotion Ordinance, legal status 1 January 2026, both checked on 3 September 2026. They are guide values, not a quote: roof shape, structural load, scaffolding, electrical installation, travel and regional price differences – the study shows lower prices in the north of Switzerland – move the price of a specific system considerably. Incentive amounts change regularly; the rate at the time of commissioning is decisive.

What determines the right path.

System size is by far the most important cost factor – each class up gets cheaper per kilowatt. The SFOE price survey 2025 gives the following median values for rooftop systems excluding VAT: 2–10 kW CHF 2,497 per kW, 10–30 kW CHF 1,911, 30–100 kW CHF 1,428, 100–300 kW CHF 1,102. Covering a bit more of the roof costs more in total but less per kilowatt – and the extra consumption from a heat pump or electric car usually arrives anyway.

The median is not a fixed price but the middle of a wide distribution: in the 2–10 kW class, 25 percent of systems were below CHF 2,096 per kW and 25 percent above CHF 3,114; in the 10–30 kW class between CHF 1,659 and CHF 2,237. A quote well above the upper quartile deserves a question about the reason – a complex roof, scaffolding, a battery or electrical work can provide it; a quote far below deserves the same question.

Worked example, single-family house, 8 kW mounted, legal status 2026: 8 kW × CHF 2,497 = CHF 19,976 excluding VAT (quartile range 8 × 2,096 to 8 × 3,114 = CHF 16,768 to 24,912). One-time remuneration: 8 kW × CHF 360 = CHF 2,880 for a mounted system, 8 × CHF 400 = CHF 3,200 for an integrated one. Net investment before taxes and cantonal contributions: roughly CHF 17,100 to 16,800. The tax deduction for systems on existing buildings and any cantonal or municipal contributions come on top and depend on where you live.

Since 1 April 2025 the federal one-time remuneration is a pure capacity contribution; the former basic contribution has been set to zero. According to Annex 2.1 of the Energy Promotion Ordinance, systems below 30 kW receive CHF 360 per kW (mounted, free-standing) or CHF 400 per kW (integrated), 30 to below 100 kW CHF 300 or 330, and from 100 kW CHF 250. Systems without self-consumption below 150 kW receive CHF 450 per kW under the high one-time remuneration; facade systems tilted 75 degrees or more get a bonus of CHF 200 (mounted) or 400 (integrated) per kW. According to the Confederation, the one-time remuneration covers at most 30 percent of the investment cost of a reference system.

Behind the price sit eight cost blocks: modules, inverter, mounting system, electrical material, site safety, labour, the installer’s planning and administration, and logistics. For small systems below 100 kW, labour is the biggest block and modules account for only around 10 percent – for large systems it is almost 28 percent. Site safety alone costs around 14 percent on small systems. Falling module prices – in 2025 around CHF 70 per kW lower than in 2024, now at about CHF 100 per kW – therefore feed through only to a limited extent on a single-family house.

A battery is a separate cost block and became noticeably cheaper in 2025: according to the SFOE study, batteries below 10 kWh sold at a median price of CHF 686 per kWh and batteries of 20 to 30 kWh at CHF 504 per kWh – in each case as part of a new installation where planning, logistics and administration are shared with the PV system. A 10 kWh battery therefore sits at roughly CHF 6,900. Whether it pays off depends on the consumption profile and local tariffs and belongs in a separate calculation, not as a blanket item in the quote.

The trend does not favour waiting: after the price rise in 2022/2023, costs fell by more than 20 percent in 2024 and by a further 4 to 9 percent in 2025; almost all size classes are now below the previous low of 2020. For 2026 the study expects stabilisation, because module prices have levelled off and no further decline in quotes was observed in the second half of 2025. Those who wait will probably save little – and lose yield and one-time remuneration for every year without a system.
