What determines the right path.

Usable capacity determines basic eligibility: the stationary battery must provide at least 10 kWh of usable capacity and be linked to an existing or planned grid-connected solar-electric system. A standalone battery without this PV connection does not fit funding category 7.1.

An extension has an additional hurdle: the newly installed battery capacity must also be at least 10 kWh, and the initial installation must have been funded at least three years earlier. A small retrofit or a battery replaced too soon does not meet this condition.

The receipt date is practically decisive in 2026: the category is limited to 700 applications, and the date of submission determines consideration. The funding programme states that this quota has already been reached and that further applications are kept on a waiting list by receipt date.

Starting before the decision remains a separate risk: the application must be filed before installation begins. Anyone who installs before the funding approval does so at their own risk under the programme; the waiting list is not a commitment because 2027 support depends on the programme continuing.

The future operating model belongs in the quote: the canton expects the operator to make 10% of the storage capacity available to the electricity utility on request for compensation; neighbourhood storage is excluded from this expectation. Clarify this point with the specific utility and the battery control system before ordering.
