In Thurgau, a feed-in limitation to 70% of installed panel capacity applies from 2026 for new systems – making self-consumption optimisation and storage an integral part of every project plan. Thurplus develops innovative virtual ZEV and LEG models with "EigenverbrauchMax" and "LokalenergiePlus". The Solarstrom-Pool Thurgau provides additional subsidies for steeply mounted winter-electricity systems.
Tax and subsidy logic
The Canton of Thurgau allows full tax deduction for PV investments as property maintenance. Deductions can be spread over two consecutive tax periods if needed. Facade-exclusive from April 2025: CHF 200/kWp subsidy ONLY for facade systems pitched ≥75° (max CHF 10,000 per system, annual budget CHF 100,000). Pure roof systems: no cantonal subsidy since 1 Apr 2025. Swiss first! New for 2026: cantonal battery storage subsidy of CHF 1,000 flat from 10 kWh usable capacity (max. 25%, application before installation). Solar power pool: 25 years of history, 800+ systems, 16 MW capacity.
Permits and energy law
Interactive solar map: for every building the map shows whether notification or building permit is needed (Green = notification, Orange = permit, Red ISOS = strict review). Facade systems: own rules. Roof systems: standard notification procedure. Thurgau implements energy regulations pragmatically and has adopted parts of MuKEn 2014 into its cantonal energy law. New buildings have self-generation requirements – PV systems are the preferred solution.
Market signal and location
Thurgau: Swiss paradigm shift — first canton to subsidize ONLY facade systems (from April 2025). This signals the shift from roof to facade in the PV industry. Solar map immediately shows every owner their status. Solar power pool: 25 years of experience. Since April 2025 the canton (Solarstrom-Pool) subsidises exclusively facade systems pitched ≥75° with CHF 200/kWp, max. CHF 10,000 per system and an annual budget of CHF 100,000. Pure roof systems no longer receive a cantonal subsidy – here the federal Pronovo one-time payment remains the key direct support. New stationary battery storage with at least 10 kWh of usable capacity receives a one-time cantonal investment grant of CHF 1,000 in 2026 (max. 25% of total investment, application before installation, capped at 700 applications). Thurplus pays for exported solar power from 2026 on a market basis (quarterly BFE reference market price) plus 2 Rp./kWh for guarantees of origin, with a statutory minimum of 6 Rp./kWh up to 30 kW.
