Can I form a LEG with neighbours in Canton Uri?

A LEG in the energieUri grid area connects PV producers and end consumers through the public grid. All connections must be in the same political municipality, within the energieUri grid and on the same network level; generation must reach at least 5% of participants’ connection capacity. Smart meters, internal billing and three months’ lead time must be settled before registration.

As of 8 September 2026: the 5% ratio, municipality and grid-area boundary and the three-month lead time come from current energieUri information and the federal LEG rules for practical implementation. They do not automatically apply to every connection in Canton Uri. Outside the energieUri distribution grid, at another network level or across a municipal boundary, the responsible grid operator must confirm the specific solution; an EnergieUri statement does not replace that check.

What determines the right path.

The energieUri grid area is the first boundary: an address in Canton Uri is not proof on its own. energieUri describes its LEG service for connections in its own distribution grid; outside that area, the responsible grid operator must confirm the requirements and registration route.

The municipality and network level determine the composition: energieUri’s requirements name the same political municipality, and the federal LEG framework requires connections on the same network level. Two nearby buildings in different municipalities therefore do not automatically belong in one LEG.

The 5% ratio is calculated from connection capacity, not roof area or annual consumption. If participating end consumers have 100 kW of combined connection capacity, the generation capacity brought into the community must be at least 5 kW; adding consumption points increases the reference value.

Intelligent metering is not a later convenience feature: the relevant connections and generation systems must be measured correctly under metering law so locally exchanged electricity can be allocated. Missing smart meters, unclear meter allocation or an uncoordinated metering concept can delay registration.

Economics do not come from PV yield alone. A LEG uses the public distribution grid with reduced grid-use charges; local energy pricing, residual supply, metering, levies and internal billing remain separate items. EnergieUri pays for surpluses but does not set the LEG’s internal solar-power price.

The start date is constrained technically and organisationally: energieUri requires at least three months’ lead time for forming a LEG. This period applies to registration with energieUri; it replaces neither PV grid-connection planning nor the coordination of metering, representation and internal billing.
