On the standard tariff of Eniwa AG, a purchased kWh costs 21.82 ct in 2027 excluding fixed and metering fees. That is roughly what every kWh of solar power saves when it is used in the house instead of being exported. The total price is 1.81 ct below last year (27.17 ct).
Exported power is paid at the quarterly reference market price; since 2026, systems below 30 kW are guaranteed a minimum of 6 ct/kWh. In Aarau, self-consumed power is therefore worth up to 3.6 times as much as exported power — which is why the share of solar power used in the house matters most.
Winter power
Suitable roofs in Aarau could produce 123.1 GWh of solar power per year, 24% of it between October and March. Adding façades raises the potential to 165.9 GWh and the winter share to 26%: vertical surfaces make better use of the low winter sun.
For a house with a heat pump, this winter share is what matters: demand is highest in winter and self-consumption is most valuable. Whether a flatter or steeper layout pays off on your roof only becomes clear in the site assessment.
Uptake
The federal plant register lists 547 photovoltaic systems in Aarau with a combined 15.5 MW. Since January 2025, 90 systems with 3.5 MW have been added. The register covers all systems above 30 kVA, subsidised systems and voluntarily registered small systems; new systems often appear with a delay. Per resident that is 680 watts — rank 170 of 196 municipalities in the Canton of Aargau.

Costs with calculation and sourcesSizing
A typical household using around 4,000 kWh per year needs roughly 25 m² of module area (Swissolar, February 2024). As a starting figure, global irradiation in Canton Aargau is around 1160 kWh/m² per year. Whether that works on your roof in Aarau depends on orientation, pitch and shading — not on the floor plan.
Two federal bonuses explicitly do not apply to a single-family home: the winter electricity bonus requires at least 100 kW, and the tilt bonus at least 75 degrees of pitch. Neither applies to an ordinary pitched roof. Counting on them makes the business case look better than it is.
Clarify notification and permission before installationStorage
Battery storage earns its money through self-consumption: it shifts solar power from midday into the evening. With Eniwa AG, every kWh shifted this way is worth 21.82 ct instead of a feed-in payment of at least 6 ct — up to CHF 158 per 1,000 kWh a year. Whether that covers the battery over its lifetime depends on your evening consumption.
Since 1 January 2025, an association for self-consumption (ZEV) may also use the existing connection lines. This makes apartment buildings and neighbourhood setups considerably cheaper, as no dedicated line is required. In Aarau, the connection conditions are set by Eniwa AG.

Aargau grants no general cantonal PV top-up per kWp for standard roof systems. The CHF 360–400/kWp (roof-integrated CHF 380/kWp) and the CHF 250/kWp parking-area bonus come from the national Pronovo one-time payment, not from the canton. At cantonal level, Aargau funds building-integrated and facade PV (integrated facade CHF 400/kWp, mounted facade CHF 200/kWp, from 75 degrees tilt, since 2025) and individually assessed large systems from ~100 kWp.
