Permits and energy law

Self-generation obligation since 1 May 2022 for all (replacement) new builds: at least 10 W/m² of energy reference area, no more than 30 kW in total (§ 8c kEnG, § 24d kEnV); substitute payments are not possible. Roof systems normally run through the notification procedure — filed at least 20 days before work starts via eBau. Subject to notification does not mean exempt from a permit. Schwyz has implemented parts of MuKEn 2014. New buildings have self-generation requirements. The canton relies on a mix of personal responsibility and targeted regulation, with PV systems being the easiest compliance solution.
