AEW feed-in tariff 2026: fixed 8.2 ct or reference price

In short

How high is the AEW feed-in tariff in 2026?

For PV systems from 2 to 30 kW, either a fixed 8.20 ct/kWh including guarantee of origin or the SFOE reference market price without HKN, at least 6 ct/kWh. The reference price was 10.27, 3.90 and 8.54 ct/kWh in Q1 to Q3 2026. Systems from 30 kW receive the reference market price. All values excluding VAT.

Background

#

In 2026, AEW lets operators of photovoltaic systems between 2 and 30 kW choose between two models. «AEW Rücklieferung Fixpreis» pays a flat 8.20 ct/kWh excluding VAT (8.86 ct/kWh including VAT for VAT-registered producers) for energy including the guarantee of origin, regardless of the market price.

«AEW Rücklieferung Referenzmarktpreis» pays the SFOE quarterly price without purchasing guarantees of origin, at least the statutory minimum up to 150 kW; in 2026 this was 10.27, 3.90 and 8.54 ct/kWh for photovoltaics in the first three quarters. Systems from 30 kW automatically receive the reference market price. According to AEW, the fixed price of 8.2 ct/kWh also applies in 2027.

What drives the economics

#
  1. A fixed price means predictability. «AEW Rücklieferung Fixpreis» pays a flat 8.20 ct/kWh excluding VAT for energy and guarantee of origin together in calendar year 2026. In Q2 2026 the reference market price was 3.90 ct/kWh, in Q1 10.27 ct/kWh; the fixed price smooths this out but forgoes high quarters.

  2. The fixed price requires guarantees of origin. The system must be directly connected to the AEW grid, registered with Pronovo and certified by an auditor, eligible for «naturemade star», commissioned in 2000 or later and not free-standing, between 2 and 30 kW, and must not receive EVS, KEV or MKF support. All conditions apply cumulatively.

  3. The alternative is the reference market price. «AEW Rücklieferung Referenzmarktpreis» pays the SFOE quarterly price, which AEW publishes in the second week after quarter-end. For systems up to 150 kW, the minimum under Art. 12 Energy Ordinance applies if the quarterly price is lower. AEW does not purchase guarantees of origin in this model.

  4. From 30 kW there is no choice. Systems from 30 kW are automatically assigned to the reference market price, up to 150 kW with a minimum (180 divided by kW with self-consumption, 6.20 ct/kWh without), above that up to 3,000 kW without. The product applies up to 3 MW capacity or 5,000 MWh annual production.

  5. The choice binds for one year. Existing systems had to choose before the start of 2026; new systems choose once for the rest of the year. Without revocation, the model renews for one year. For the fixed price, the 2026 registration deadlines were 7 December 2025, 15 February, 15 May and 15 August 2026 for a start in the following quarter.

  6. The fixed price stays in 2027. AEW also offers systems up to 30 kW a fixed price of 8.2 ct/kWh including guarantee of origin in 2027. Without transferring HKNs, the 2027 payment is the spot price at the time of feed-in plus a top-up if the reference market price is below the minimum. Systems without a smart meter remain on the reference market price during a transition period.

The process in six steps

Tick off for your project

  1. Confirm the AEW grid

the product sheets only apply to exports into the AEW distribution grid, not to every address in Aargau. The ElCom electricity price website shows the grid operator for the connection address.

  2. Determine the capacity class

below 2 kW, 2 to 30 kW, 30 to 150 kW or above. Only the 2 to 30 kW class can choose between fixed price and reference market price.

  3. Compare the models

calculate expected exports per quarter once at 8.20 ct/kWh and once at the higher of reference price and minimum. In the reference model, the guarantees of origin stay with the producer.

  4. Register for the fixed price

register and certify the system with Pronovo, apply in the AEW customer portal and upload the certification. AEW registers the HKN standing order with Pronovo within two weeks, and the producer confirms it via a link.

  5. Meet the deadline

the fixed price starts in the quarter after registration if the deadline is met. For a switch in 2027, the deadlines in the AEW 2027 product sheets apply once published.

  6. Check the settlement

AEW pays quarterly according to the exported volume or carries the payment forward to the next invoice. VAT-registered producers receive the rates including VAT.
