From when can I form a LEG in Canton Zug?
A LEG in the WWZ grid area of Canton Zug connects renewable producers, consumers and storage operators within one municipality. Requirements are the same network level, a generation-to-connection-capacity ratio of at least 5% and a smart meter per metering point. WWZ reduces grid use by 40% or 20%; registration and technical review must start at least three months before commissioning.

As of 31 August 2026, WWZ’s grid-topology check provides only non-binding guidance for NE7; NE5 is not assessed on the map. The binding technical review takes place only after LEG registration. The 5% ratio, smart-meter requirement, exclusion of plug-and-play and systems below 2 kWp, and the 40%/20% discount apply to WWZ’s process and must not be transferred wholesale to other grid areas in Zug.

What determines the right path.
Grid topology comes before PV design: a WWZ LEG is limited to one municipality, may not use a voltage level above 36 kV and requires the same grid operator and network level NE7 or NE5. An address in Canton Zug or two buildings being close to each other is therefore not enough.
The entry threshold is a capacity ratio: the LEG’s generation capacity must reach at least 5% of the connection capacity of the participating consumption points. Calculate this ratio against the connection data; panel area or an arbitrary kWp figure is not a substitute.
Metering infrastructure is a hard requirement: producers, consumers and storage operators need an intelligent WWZ metering system and each requires a separate metering point. If WWZ has to retrofit a smart meter, the LEG conditions allow up to three months from registration; the connection can participate only after installation.
The financial effect depends on transformation: without transformation and with the same network level, WWZ reduces the grid-use charge for LEG electricity by 40%; where transformation is required, the reduction is 20%. The 2026 metering tariff sheet also states a CHF 0.50 surcharge per LEG meter per month.
Billing is split: WWZ determines the LEG shares exchanged through the distribution grid and bills each participant for grid imports, metering services and charges. Internal settlement of locally exchanged electricity remains the LEG’s responsibility; WWZ provides metering data but does not perform the internal billing.
The schedule starts before installation: WWZ requires notification at least three months before planned commissioning, and the LEG is formed on the first day of the next month after that period. The online check for NE7 is non-binding; the final technical decision comes only after a complete LEG registration.
