PV grid connection Aargau: TAG, notice and SiNa process

A PV grid connection in Aargau works when the connection request, installation notice, metering concept and safety certificate are coordinated with the responsible distribution grid operator in the correct order before installation. In AEW’s service area, AEW answers a connection request within three weeks and requires an installation notice submitted by a licensed electrical installer before work begins. For parallel-operated generation systems, the technical connection request (TAG) precedes the installation notice under the works regulations; the notice must follow within six months of TAG approval. Outside AEW’s service area, this process does not apply automatically: the local grid operator’s technical requirements govern. Following the initial electrical test, even a non-grid-connected PV system needs a test record; for a grid-connected system, the installation notice is also required before execution.

What you need to know first.

For a PV system in Aargau, the responsible grid operator must assess the connection and metering concept before implementation. In AEW’s service area, the connection request is answered within three weeks; TAG, the installation notice before work, the initial test and SiNa form the technical process. Other grid areas have their own requirements.

As of 19 July 2026, the three-week response and six-month TAG validity come from the AEW process and works regulations and do not apply automatically to every Aargau connection point. Building-law clearance and binding technical approval remain separate decisions; this is not individual electrical or legal advice.

What determines the right path.

The grid operator depends on the connection point: AEW describes its process only for its own service area. Elsewhere in Aargau, the responsible distribution grid operator decides the connection conditions, metering concept and any required grid upgrade; an AEW approval is not a substitute there.

The technical sequence is binding: for a parallel-operated generation system, the German-speaking Switzerland works regulations require the TAG first and then the installation notice. A TAG expires if no installation notice follows within six months of approval.

The AEW timeframe is a planning anchor, not a construction guarantee: AEW states that it answers a connection request within three weeks. This does not replace a complete technical review or set a date for meter work or any necessary grid reinforcement.

The installation notice belongs before execution: ESTI identifies it as a pre-work notification for PV systems connected to the low-voltage distribution grid. In AEW’s service area, it must be submitted by a licensed electrical installer; a quotation alone is not sufficient.

The metering concept and additional loads determine the modification: AEW checks with the PV registration whether the requested feed-in capacity is available in the grid. Battery storage, a wallbox or heat pump must therefore appear with inverter data and the meter concept in the same technical dossier, not only after installation.

Commissioning must be completed with evidence: ESTI requires an initial test and test record before commissioning, even without a grid connection. For the Pronovo notification, complete certified system data are required after commissioning; integrated systems also need construction or completion photographs.

How the project stays cleanly managed.

    Document installation, testing and the safety certificatebefore commissioning, the electrical specialist performs the initial test and records it in the test record. In the AEW process, the SiNa, PV measurement and test record and commissioning record are relevant documents.

    Complete the grid-side implementation and commissioningdo not commission the system until the agreed grid and metering step has been completed. Keep final system data, test records and grid-operator correspondence together so that connection, acceptance and later Pronovo notification information do not conflict.

    Handle Pronovo after commissioning with the same datasubmit the complete commissioning notification with certified system data. For integrated systems, Pronovo also requires construction or completion photographs; the incentive notification does not replace grid approval.
